Social Impact Investing discussion paper
In response to the Financial System Inquiry, the Commonwealth Government released a discussion paper on 28 January 2017 exploring ways to facilitate the growth of the Australian social impact investing market. The discussion paper sets out a proposed whole-of-government position on social impact investing for consultation, including principles to guide government involvement in the social impact investing market. The paper also seeks views on the possible regulatory barriers to the growth of the market.
The Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership (the Partnership) has been tasked by Government to consider the potential of innovative investment and finance models and as part of this work has commissioned research and undertaken extensive consultation to support its advice to government. The Partnership sees impact investment as an opportunity to attract new resources and expertise that can address disadvantage and strength communities, to reduce reliance on government.
The Treasurer, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, has invited the Partnership to outline its views in a submission as part of the consultation process. The Partnership’s submission will be available in February 2017 on the Treasury website.
