Community organisations benefit from Commonwealth Government Volunteer Grants
Nearly 100,000 volunteers will have their work made easier, safer and more enjoyable thanks to Volunteer Grants announced Monday 1 May, 2017.
Two thousand seven hundred community organisations around Australia will benefit from grants of between $1000 and $5000, enabling them to purchase much-needed equipment, training, transport and background screening.
In announcing the successful recipients, Minister Porter said volunteers play a vital role in in building strong, inclusive communities by helping the most disadvantaged members of our communities.
Priority for these grants was given to small, volunteer-run organisations working with individuals or communities experiencing disadvantage, including communities impacted by natural disasters in the last 18 months.
Funding includes:
- nearly $1.5 million to assist 375 organisations working in communities affected by natural disaster in the 12 months to 13 December 2016.
- over $700,000 to 165 Indigenous organisations
- over $4.3 million to 1058 community organisations supporting vulnerable new migrants and refugees.
