Community and Philanthropy Partnerships Week 7-13 December 2015
[L to R: Ms Nicola Forrest, Ms Marisa Duong and Mr Andrew Forrest]
8 December 2015
On Monday the Minister announced the launch of the inaugural Community and Philanthropy Partnerships Week.
The Week is an initiative of the Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership to promote philanthropy and showcase collaborative partnerships across the business, not-for-profit and community sectors through grassroots celebration activities.
From 7 to 13 December community and philanthropy organisations across Australia will hold events to celebrate local collaborative partnerships – achieving more together.
Some 24 groups in each state and territory have received grants to provide events such as a film, documentary, book or case study launch, highlighting the impact of partnership projects in their community.
A list of registered events is on the Community and Philanthropy Partnerships Week website.
In Western Australia the Forrest Research Foundation, a partnership between the Minderoo Foundation and five Western Australian universities, celebrated with the announcement of the 2016 Forrest Research Foundation Scholarships. The Scholarships have been awarded to three outstanding Australian and international students to pursue a Doctorate.
Marisa Duong, pictured above with Nicola and Andrew Forrest, will use her scholarship to research Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which leads to the premature deaths of one in 3,500 boys worldwide each year.
